Getting creative on street homelessness

Re: “Rev. Al’s Dandelion Society helps friendship blossom on the streets,” Dec. 23.
Rev. Al Tysick, former executive director of Our Place, apparently doesn’t know the meaning of retirement. Now he is going to put his boots on the pavement, working in the rough.
Street people do need this kind of help. They are from all levels of society and from all parts of Greater Victoria. All, for diverse reasons, are at a low point in their lives.
Surely, an affluent society such as ours can think of more creative ways to handle this problem than just unco-ordinated handouts.
