Vision
Our vision is to help the community and its members who are afflicted with addictions or mental illness to find better, more meaningful ways to health, to grow in potential, and find their rightful place in Society.
Mission
Turning darkness into light, the Victoria Dandelion Society will be a presence of opportunity where the community comes together, those with and without addictions, will receive support to discover, develop, and share their unique and often hidden talents.
One day someone came to Mother Theresa and said,” What you are doing is nothing but a drop in the ocean.” She replied, “Don’t you know the ocean is only made up of a drop?”
So we, the Victoria Dandelion Society, are just a little drop, a tiny light in the community where darkness prevails in hidden corners and in broad daylight.
In all our littleness we are called to be a sign that love is stronger than hate, that trust is stronger than conflict, that truth is stronger than any form of lies or illusions. We give thanks for the bonds that bind us together in love, strengthening the fabric of our community.
Values
At the heart of the Victoria Dandelion Society are the relationships between people with and without addictions and with or without mental health issues. We foster a respectful relationship between people who treat each other and find value in one another as equals. We will be advocates for those with no power. We will speak out for social justice and equality for all.
We will seek out the talents and gifts within each other despite our diversity in race, religion, culture, and our fragile conditions such as addictions and or mental health.
Loneliness is the depth of darkness for thousands who are homeless, addicted and/or who have mental health issues. At the heart of the society is a human desire to provide acceptance and a place of belonging.
In order to belong somewhere a person has to be missed when they are not there, the society are seekers of community and belonging for all, rich and poor alike; all should have a place of belonging within our community. If you are not missed, you do not belong; if you do not belong there is no community.
We offer unconditional love in a non-judgemental way. This is a work that lives out social justice. We will do our work on the street, in the hospitals, in the jails, all places that shelter those who are forgotten, we will welcome them and when when they leave too soon, we will honour their final journey with dignity and respect.
